Copyright policy

Last updated October 23, 2026

Fastwater respects copyright and responds to notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA, 17 U.S.C. §512). Files on Fastwater are private to the users who add them. There is no public sharing.

A user can send a share link to a few people. A share link is not a public page: it plays only the files the user picked, in at most 10 browsers, and stops after at most 30 days or when the user turns it off. The video addresses it hands out expire after a few hours. Each link belongs to the account that made it, and we record who made it and which files it holds.

Our designated agent

Send copyright notices and counter-notices to our designated agent:

Grant Steffen
3150 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90010
(203) 434-4291
dmca@fastwater.app

Email is the fastest way to reach us. This address is only for copyright matters. For anything else, email support@fastwater.app.

Sending a notice

A valid notice (17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3)) must include:

  • the physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner, or of a person authorized to act for them;
  • the copyrighted work you say is infringed, or a list of works if the notice covers several;
  • the material you say infringes, with enough detail for us to find it. Files are private, so the most useful details are the torrent's info hash or magnet link and the file names. If you found the material through a share link (fastwater.app/share/...), include the link;
  • your name, postal address, phone number, and email address;
  • a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;
  • a statement that the information in the notice is accurate, and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.

If a notice is missing something, we may ask you for it. A person who knowingly misrepresents that material infringes can be liable for damages (17 U.S.C. §512(f)).

What we do with a valid notice

  • We remove the file promptly. We store one copy of each file for everyone who adds it, so the file is removed for every user who has it.
  • We block the file, and the torrent if the notice names it, so it cannot be added again.
  • Every share link that holds the file stops playing it.
  • We email each affected user the notice's reference, the files we removed, and how to send a counter-notice.
  • We record a strike on each affected account (see below).

Counter-notices

If you believe a file was removed by mistake or misidentified, you can send a counter-notice to our designated agent. A valid counter-notice (17 U.S.C. §512(g)(3)) must include:

  • your physical or electronic signature;
  • the file that was removed and where it was before removal, such as the notice's reference from our email and the file name;
  • a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith that the file was removed by mistake or misidentification;
  • your name, address, and phone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if you live outside the US, any judicial district where Fastwater may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the notice or their agent.

We send a copy of a valid counter-notice, with your contact details, to the person who sent the notice. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they have filed a court action against you, we restore access 10 to 14 business days after we received your counter-notice. The stored copy was deleted with the notice, so we lift the block and withdraw the strike, and you can add the file again.

Repeat infringers

We disable the accounts of repeat infringers. Each valid notice that removes files from your account is one strike, however many files it covers. A strike counts for 12 months.

  • At 3 strikes within 12 months, we disable the account. It can no longer sign in to the API, stream, or download, and its active transfers are cancelled.
  • A strike is withdrawn if a counter-notice restores the file, or if the notice is withdrawn.
  • We may close an account sooner for clear or deliberate infringement.

Changes

We will post changes to this policy here and update the date at the top.
