Setup guide

Open Fastwater in File Explorer

Windows maps Fastwater as a network drive over WebDAV, so File Explorer shows your files like a disk.

Works on Windows 10 and 11.

Before you start

WebDAV is on the Standard and Pro plans. On the Apps page, press Set up on Finder and File Explorer: it creates a key for this app and shows these steps with your details filled in.

Connection details

Server
https://fastwater.app/dav/
Username
fastwater (any name works)
Password
Your WebDAV key

For an app without a password field, use the link with the key in it, https://fastwater.app/dav/YOUR_KEY/, and keep it secret.

Steps

In a terminal. Explorer then shows the files as drive F:.

net use F: https://fastwater.app/dav/ /user:fastwater YOUR_KEY

Windows copies files up to 50 MB by default. The Windows guide shows how to raise the limit.

Copy files larger than 50 MB

Windows copies files up to 50 MB over WebDAV by default. To raise the limit to 4 GB, run this in a terminal as an administrator, then restart the WebClient service:

reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters /v FileSizeLimitInBytes /t REG_DWORD /d 0xFFFFFFFF /f
net stop webclient && net start webclient

For files larger than 4 GB, use rclone instead.

Good to know

  • Files are read-only. Add and delete them in Fastwater.
  • Files open through a redirect to a signed storage link, so the app must follow redirects. Every app in these guides does.
  • WebDAV does not save watch progress to Fastwater. Each app keeps its own.
  • Create one key per app, so you can sign one out alone under TV and devices.
