Setup guide

Use Fastwater with Jellyfin

Jellyfin reads your Fastwater files from an rclone mount on the computer that runs the server. Your files stay in Fastwater; nothing is copied to your disks.

Works on Jellyfin server on Windows, macOS, Linux, or a NAS.

Before you start

WebDAV is on the Standard and Pro plans. On the Apps page, press Set up on Jellyfin: it creates a key for this app and shows these steps with your details filled in.

Connection details

Server
https://fastwater.app/dav/
Username
fastwater (any name works)
Password
Your WebDAV key

For an app without a password field, use the link with the key in it, https://fastwater.app/dav/YOUR_KEY/, and keep it secret.

Steps

Add the remote, then mount it.

rclone config create fastwater webdav url=https://fastwater.app/dav/ vendor=other user=fastwater pass=YOUR_KEY --obscure
rclone mount fastwater: ~/Fastwater --read-only --vfs-cache-mode minimal

Mount Fastwater with rclone (see the rclone steps) on the computer that runs the server, then add the mount folder as a library. A first scan reads the start of every file, so it takes a while.

Scanning

Turn off thumbnail and preview generation for the library to keep scans short. Run the server as the same user that mounted the folder, so it can read the files.

Good to know

  • Files are read-only. Add and delete them in Fastwater.
  • Files open through a redirect to a signed storage link, so the app must follow redirects. Every app in these guides does.
  • WebDAV does not save watch progress to Fastwater. Each app keeps its own.
  • Create one key per app, so you can sign one out alone under TV and devices.
